Björn and Virginia Björnson were committed to working hard and encouraging those around them to ‘do all the good you can, by all the means you can.’ Their children hope that this award will support others to reach for the best in themselves.
Recognizing Excellence
The RLCC will award an annual recognition award ($500 value) to a teacher who has exemplified passion, skill, and commitment to students with LD including reading, writing, and/or math disabilities.

Evidence of teacher practice:
- Use of science of reading, structured literacy, and Orton-Gillingham implementation in public school
- Attended professional development and specific training/coursework which has focused on science of reading, structured literacy, and Orton-Gillingham implementation
- Testimony from AT LEAST TWO INDIVIDUALS: colleague, parent, and/or school regarding change influence of teacher
- Must be alumni of RLCC formal OGA accredited training
- Deadline – May 1 annually (from 2026 Award = $250 for two educators)
